Psychological Safety
"We thrive in environments that respect us" Dr Timothy Clark. Those aha moments often happen when we learn about 'Psychological Safety. For many of us in the Learning & Development field, we learnt about creating 'Psychological Safety' when Amy Edmondson coined the term in 1999. Later, Google developing a list of the 5 key dynamics that make great teams successful, leading the way, showing us that great leadership or teams don't exist without behaviours that offer psychological safety. Today, I had the privilege to pass on my L&D knowledge in facilitating a workshop internally to a group of SME's about to embark on becoming Project Trainers. In the workshop, we covered the essentials of Adult Learning etc. but added a focus on creating positive climates and psychological safety.
This is one of the best books I can recommend on Psychological Safety is from Dr Timothy, he says People want to... ◼Feel Included.
◼Feel Safe to learn & grow, ask questions, make mistakes.
◼Feel Safe to Contribute, participate as a member of a team.
◼Feel Safe to Challenge the Status Quo and speak up for change.
He asks us all to ask ourselves if we all create an environment for others to do those four things. #PsychologicalSafety #learningenvironment #learning
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
